I was reading an article this morning from CNN regarding orphans from Haiti. It was an interesting yet heart breaking article all at the same time. I learned that there are agencies here in the US that are bringing orphaned children from Haiti to the US in hopes of their adoption by families here in the states.
The article focused on the children who had not yet been adopted. There were several children who had been at these facilities for almost a year waiting for someone to adopt them. It was heart breaking how they mentioned that the children had felt abandoned not only in their country but also in the US. They felt as if no one wanted them at all.
Imagine feeling like that. Imagine feeling like an orphan in where you felt as if no one wanted you and feeling rejected by so many individuals in your life. What a sad concept. Some of us might have felt like that at one point in our lives or maybe we’re there right now.
The truth is that we might not have had an earthly father or mother but we have a Heavenly Father who is in the business of adopting us as His children. I think of how He looks to affirm us as He did with Jesus when He parted the Heavens and made a public declaration of His affection. The Lord said “You are my son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased”
My prayer is that we would all find our place in the family of the Lord as His children, the way that He intended it to be.
Romans 8:15 (NIV)-The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
