One Salty Dinner

Posted: January 31, 2011 in Uncategorized

When Ashley and I first got married, she didn’t really know how to cook. I actually had to teach her how to cook and from that point on she launched off into this amazing chief. I remember the first meal that she ever made for us as newly weds, it was a Cuban dish called “Picadillo”. When I got home from work I was thrilled to find the dinner table set up with dinner already finished sitting on top of the stove. After she served me we sat down and  I took a monstrous bite of the “picadillo”. After the first bite I had to take my large glass of water and drink almost the entire thing because the food was too salty. Ashley didn’t know at the time that if you add garlic salt and then regular salt into the dish that equals a lot of salt.

This is a great illustration of  how we as Christians should appear to the world. Jesus called us the salt of the earth and what does salt make you do? It makes you thirsty and want to drink a gallon of water like in my case. We are to be the salt of the earth that would cause the world to thirst for the water that Jesus provides, the water that will cause you to thirst no more. Jesus told the women at the well that anyone who drinks of His water will never thirst again. Let us live our lives like a salty plate of picadillo that would cause the world to thirst for the salvation of Jesus.

Matthew 5:13 (NIV) You are the salt of the earth…

keep it burning…
